The Italian citizen residing in the Consular District of the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi, who intends to establish a civil union abroad, can apply to this Consular Chancellery according to the following procedure:
The first step is the sending of a written request for the establishment of a Civil Union (form), signed by both applicants, sent to the Consular Chancellery by normal mail or by e-mail (consolare.ambnewdelhi@esteri.it )
accompanied by a photocopy of identity documents, substitutive declaration of certifications signed by the Italian applicant (modello), of the marriage clearance certificate or marriage ability certificate relating to the applicant for Indian citizenship, issued by the Magistrate of the place of residence, attested by Home Secretary of the State Government and legalized with Apostille (Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India). In the case of an applicant of another nationality, consult the procedures for legalizing the aforementioned certificate by sending an e-mail to the Consular Chancellery (consolare.newdelhi@esteri.it).
Subsequently, the Consular Chancellery draws up a report and summons the applicants to sign it. Within thirty days from the drafting of the minutes and if the checks carried out by the Consular Chancellery on the basis of art. 70-bis, paragraph 2 of Presidential Decree no. 396/2000 have ascertained the existence of the conditions and the absence of impediments, will be given to applicants’ specific communication to set the date of establishment of the civil union.
