PRESS RELEASE

Italian Fashion Days in India: Italian Style takes the stage in Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad

The excellence and creativity of Italian fashion landed in India with the first edition of the Italian Fashion Days in the World (Giornate della Moda Italiana nel Mondo – GMIM), an initiative promoted by the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi, the Consulate General of Italy in Mumbai, and the Italian Cultural Institute in New Delhi, in collaboration with The Platform, an Italian fashion media company strongly committed to internationalization.

From October 28 to 30, 2025, three of India’s most dynamic cities — New Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad — hosted a rich calendar of events dedicated to the dialogue between Italian fashion and the Indian market. The initiative aims at highlighting the quality, training, sustainability, and innovation of Made in Italy, fostering new synergies among companies, designers, and industry professionals.

The GMIM project was launched in January 2025 by Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as part of the “growth diplomacy” strategy promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and ITA-Agency, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the main associations of the Italian fashion sector (ANFAO, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, Confapi Uniontessile, Confartigianato Moda, Confartigianato Orafi, CNA Federmoda, CNA Orafi, Confindustria Accessori Moda, Confindustria FEDERORAFI, Confindustria Moda – Federazione Tessile e Moda, and Altagamma).

GMIM represents a global format designed to strengthen the international presence of Italian fashion, support the internationalization of Italian companies, and promote a shared narrative uniting culture, creativity, and industry.

After previous editions in Osaka, Dubai, and Brazil, and events organized by Italy’s diplomatic-consular and cultural network around the world (beginning in Athens), India becomes one of the main stages of the project in 2025.

The Italian Fashion Days in the World offer an important opportunity to reinforce the MAECI-ITA campaign “OpportunItaly”—a tool of the Export Action Plan aimed at fostering business connections between Italian companies and foreign operators through digital business matching services and dedicated content for key Made in Italy sectors, available on the online platform www.opportunitaly.gov.it.

The Cities and Venues in India

The series kickstarted in New Delhi, at the Italian Cultural Institute of the Embassy, with a day of talks and networking focused on dialogue between Italian and Indian creativity.
Participants included David Abraham and Vidyum Singh, renowned Indian designers, in conversation with Italian designer Francesco Corcione (Saman Loira) in a panel on Ecological and Social Sustainability in the Fashion Industry, moderated by Andrea Anastasio, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute.

The evening at the Institute marked the inauguration of the exhibition “Italia è Moda”, curated by Clara Tosi Pamphili with the involvement of all associations that signed the Memorandum with MAECI.
Display cases and mannequins showcase Italian excellence in fashion and textiles, with the exhibition open to the public until the end of December.

The closing event took place in Ahmedabad, at the city’s prestigious University, a symbol of Indian academic excellence in design and manufacturing. A special focus highlighted Jato and Jato India, leading embroidery companies for luxury brands worldwide.
