Theft or loss
In case of theft / loss of the passport, the appropriate complaint form is available at the Consular Chancellery, to be presented together with the request for the issuance of the new passport or Emergency Travel Document (ETD – Emergency Travel Document).
However, it is advisable to communicate the theft / loss to the email address consolare.newdelhi@esteri.it, to receive precise instructions on the matter, sending attached a copy of the complaint to the local authorities, a copy of an Italian identity document (if you have one), and of the visa to enter India (if you have it).
The report of theft / loss of the document must necessarily also be made to the local Police Authority.
WARNING: it will not be possible to report the theft / loss of the passport:
• Without a photocopy of the aforementioned document
• Or, alternatively, without the indication of the Police Headquarters or the Diplomatic-Consular Representation that issued the document.
Return of passports found abroad and returned to the Consular Chancellery
Please note that passports stolen or lost abroad and subsequently found by the local authorities must be returned to the consular office in whose jurisdiction the theft or loss occurred.
We therefore invite those who have undergone a theft / loss in India and want to verify if their documents have been found to contact the Consular Chancellery of the Embassy at the email address consolare.newdelhi@esteri.it
Please note that any withdrawal of the passport can take place in the following ways:
• direct collection at the Consular Office;
• sending by post, with shipping costs charged to the applicant.
Please note that after the maximum period of one year of storage at the Consular Office, starting from the date on which the local authorities return the stolen or lost passports, without the documents having been claimed by the legitimate owners, they will be destroyed without further communication.
