{"id":6860,"date":"2026-05-21T15:43:51","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T10:13:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambnewdelhi.esteri.it\/?p=6860"},"modified":"2026-05-21T15:49:28","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T10:19:28","slug":"official-visit-to-rome-by-indian-prime-minister-narendra-modi-may-19-and-20-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambnewdelhi.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2026\/05\/official-visit-to-rome-by-indian-prime-minister-narendra-modi-may-19-and-20-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Official visit to Rome by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi (May 19 and 20, 2026)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"152\">Indian Prime Minister <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Narendra Modi<\/span><\/span> paid a productive bilateral visit to <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Rome<\/span><\/span> on May 19 and 20.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"154\" data-end=\"475\">The visit represented the culmination of a path of friendship and cooperation that <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Italy<\/span><\/span> and <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">India<\/span><\/span> have built over the years with consistency and determination, in order to renew and strengthen bilateral relations and bring them to their highest level ever.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"477\" data-end=\"722\">During the consultations, Prime Minister <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Giorgia Meloni<\/span><\/span> and her Indian counterpart <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Narendra Modi<\/span><\/span> decided to elevate relations between Italy and India to the level of a Special Strategic Partnership.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"724\" data-end=\"1016\">Within the framework of the visit, a Joint Declaration by the Leaders was adopted, and numerous Memorandum of Understanding were signed in sectors of major strategic importance, such as defense, ports and infrastructure, agriculture, culture, critical minerals, higher education, and mobility.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1018\" data-end=\"1333\">The visit also had a strong economic dimension. The two Prime Ministers affirmed their commitment to achieving the goal of EUR 20 billion in trade exchange by 2029. Prime Minister Meloni also hosted a working lunch attended by the CEOs of some of the leading companies from the respective industrial ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1335\" data-end=\"1662\">In the morning, PM Modi was received by the President of the Italian Republic, <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Sergio Mattarella<\/span><\/span>.
