Announced by the two Prime Ministers as part of the strengthening of the Special Strategic Partnership between the two countries, the initiative aims to further consolidate the cultural, people-to-people and economic dimensions of relations between Italy and India.

It will serve as a platform in support of Italy’s economic diplomacy, turning cultural cooperation into concrete opportunities for sustainable development, economic exchange and the internationalisation of our productive and creative sectors.

The Year will promote culture, tourism, innovation and education through an integrated approach. A central pillar of the initiative will be the promotion of a wide range of artistic disciplines as instruments of dialogue and international outreach.

Visual arts, architecture, design, fashion, craftsmanship, music, theatre, dance, publishing, cinema and digital arts will be showcased through exhibitions, festivals, cultural programmes, conferences and joint productions.

These forms of artistic expression will offer an opportunity to showcase contemporary Italy and its creative heritage, enhancing the international visibility of Made in Italy while linking the Year’s activities to the promotion of sectors expected to benefit most from the EU–India FTA, starting with wine.

Particular attention will be devoted to showcasing Italy’s regions and territories, highlighting their cultural, landscape and productive diversity.

The programme will spotlight historic villages, art cities, rural areas, creative and manufacturing districts, UNESCO World Heritage Sites and cultural itineraries, also using cinema, photography and performing arts as powerful storytelling tools. From this perspective, tourism will be promoted as a driver of local development and a means of discovering and appreciating local identities.

The 2027 Italy–India Year of Culture and Tourism aims to generate a lasting impact beyond its conclusion by fostering long-term partnerships among museums, universities, research centres, foundations, businesses and local authorities.

This network of cooperation will help increase tourist flows, strengthen academic and cultural exchanges and consolidate Italy’s international standing, generating lasting benefits for Italy’s national economic system and for bilateral relations with India.
